Welcome to Week 6 of the Flower Market Sew-A-Long, where we will be making Flower 6. This is a great way to complete this quilt top. We will be showing you step by step photos. There is also a video at the end of this tutorial with more Flower 6 instructions.
The quilt measures 62″ x 74″. You will need a Fat Quarter bundle of Daisy Mae, 4 1/4 yards of white Country Confetti, 3/4 yards of binding and the Flower Market Pattern. All of these are available through your favorite quilt shop. You can also see everything you will need on our website here.
The first thing to do is organize, cut and label all your pieces for Flower 6. Note to self: if you spray starch all your fabric before cutting you will be thrilled with the final look of your block.
Sew your half square triangles together. Use your favorite method to square them to 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.
Sew 4 half square triangles together to form the top of the flower.
Once you have sewn these together… press the seams open. Your quilter will love you! When you iron your seams open you allow the bulk of the fabric to be evenly distributed rather than sitting all together in one place.
The next sewing is for the bottom of the flower. Use the stitch and flip method to place the squares in the corner.
Sew on the pressed line or line you have drawn. Trim leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press.
Sew the other square in the opposite corner. Sew on the pressed line or pencil line. Trim leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press.
Making the leaves is the next step. Use the stitch and flip method to sew your squares in the corner.
Sew on the pressed line or pencil line. Trim leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press.
Make one left leaf and one right leaf. Sew the leaf sections together. Press.
Sew the left leaf side to the stem. Press seam toward the stem. Sew the right leaf side to the stem. Press seam toward the stem.
