Finishing the Flower Market Sew Along

Finishing the Flower Market Sew Along

Today is the day we are going to sew all of your flowers together and finish your Flower Market quilt. You are going to love how this quilt turns out! The pattern shows step by step photos. There is also a video at the end of this tutorial with some tips and tricks to sewing your sashing seams on the bias.

The quilt measures 62″ x 74″. You will need a Fat Quarter bundle of Daisy Mae, 4 1/4 yards of white Country Confetti, 3/4 yards of binding and the Flower Market Pattern. All of these are available through your favorite quilt shop. You can also see everything you will need on our website here.

This is a beautiful quilt made up of 7 different flowers. Over the last 7 weeks we have been sewing one flower a week with a homework assignment of a few extra flowers for practice.

The first quilt we made was using yardage from Daisy Mae. The quilt we made for the Flower Market Sew Along uses a fat quarter bundle. You will have plenty of fabric to make these scrappy flowers. If you would like to make it exactly like the picture you will need 1/2 yard of the darkest pink, so you can make all the heart flowers the same pink color.

Lay out 6 flower blocks. You will make 4 rows. Each row has 6 flowers blocks and 5 sashing pieces for in between each block.

With right sides together sew the flowers to the sashing. Press seams toward the flower block. Repeat to finish each row. Make 4 flower rows.

Each flower row will have a sashing in-between. You will need 3 sashing to sew in-between each flower row. To make a diagonal seam, place a 2 1/2″ strip with the other strip perpendicular. Draw a line corner to corner. Note to self: draw a line from the top of the corner to the bottom of the corner where you can see the strip underneath finishes.

Sew on the pencil line. Trim leaving 1/4″ seam allowance.

Press strip. Measure the length for the sashing and cut.

Sew the long sashing pieces in-between each flower row. Press. Sew rows together to complete the center of the quilt. Measure the center of the quilt to get your exact measurement for your borders. Measure from the quilt top to the quilt bottom, through the center, to get your side seam border measurements. Measure from the quilt left side to the quilt right side through the quilt center, to get your top and bottom border measurements. Sew the side borders first. Press. Sew the top and bottom borders last. Press.
