My Darling Deer Fabric Tour with Pretty By Hand

My Darling Deer Fabric Tour with Pretty By Hand

Welcome to today’s stop on the My Darling Deer fabric tour! This collection is designed by Michal Marko and takes inspiration from all things in nature. The deer, birds, and tossed flowers are straight from your favorite storybook.

Today's project holds a special place in our hearts. Kristyne designed and stitched this quilt for her mother, who is a patient in a care facility due to dementia. Krystine says that the soft colors and gentle wildlife in this collection made it the perfect fit for this project. We couldn't feel more honored to be part of such a special display of love and care.

Kristyne embroidered six patches with words that she felt were important to remember when caring for someone with dementia. Love, joy, kindness, peace, connection, and dignity. Each patch is bordered with a feather stitch. These are such a meaningful details for a quilt like this.

The tone-on-tone ferns in soft blues and lavenders deepening into plum and navy prints will carry you from quilts to nursery projects and home décor. We couldn't have imagined this collection being used in a project as meaningful as this one and we're honored to be a part of it.

Kristyne machine stitched each hexagon in this quilt, starting and stopping at each corner, to create the rows in this quilt first. She also chose to twirl all the seams together at each juncture – so satisfying!

Kristyne's quilt now hangs outside of her mother's room in the care facility for all of the staff and her neighbors to enjoy. We're incredibly touched by the story that has inspired this piece, and each moment of care that went into creating it. We're wishing only lovely things for each and every person with a family member who is experiencing dementia.

We invite you back for the next edition of our My Darling Deer fabric tour with Amanda. Come along for more inspiration and delightful projects in our latest collection by Michal Marko. Until then, happy sewing!
