Pink Leaves Quilt with Jina Barney

Pink Leaves Quilt with Jina Barney

We love bringing you seasonal quilting goodness, and this year’s fall treat is the Pink Leaves quilt. This quilt is designed by Jina Barney; it features a beautifully curated selection of Poppie Cotton fabrics in lovely pinks, browns, and yellows.

You can download your free copy of the Pink Leaves quilt pattern here and follow along with us!

This quilt is made up of thirty leaf blocks between yellow and cream sashing and nine square blocks. Let’s go through a quick tutorial for each of the pieces!

Pink Leaf Block:

The pink leaf block begins with making half-square triangles. Our pattern includes a nice excerpt explaining a quick and easy method of making your half-square triangles. Each leaf block requires five half-square triangles in the following color combinations: light pink & dark pink, dark pink & cream, light pink & cream.

Additionally, one stem piece should be made. We use the stitch and flip method for ours. The final piece is a white 3 ½ inch square.

Sashing and Nine Square Blocks:

For the sashing you’ll need 1 ½ inch by 11-inch strips in yellow and white. First, stitch together alternating rows of yellow and white. You can follow the steps in the pattern to cut rows for your nine-patch squares from these sashing.

Jina shows each step of the Pink Leaves Quilt in this YouTube video. We love bringing you resources to enjoy and grow in your quilting journey.

For this project, we enjoyed using our Oliso iron and Quilter’s Select rulers and mat! Poppie Cotton has partnered with Quilter’s Select to bring you beautiful and functional tools in the prettiest Poppie Cotton pinks! Rulers and mats (soon, also available in 24-inches by 36-inches) will be back in stock soon and will be joined by pink rotary cutters. This collaboration is the best mix of functional and pretty in pink!
