We are so fortunate to have a community of sewists that love Poppie Cotton. A cornerstone of our community is a group of fabulous Poppie Cotton Ambassadors. These creatives are always working on something new and they devote so much of their time and energy to stitching something beautiful with our fabrics.
We’ve been taking this month on our social media to show off and talk about this talented bunch and we had to share with you here on the blog, too!
Kristen learned to sew at her mother’s request. Kristen hated sewing for years before she started making her own clothing from vintage patterns. Eventually she gave into the world of quilting and for the last six years we’ve all been benefitting from her decision.
Meet Sara!
Sara learned to sew on her own, and she says that “starting is the hardest part!” Sara still has her first project – a quilted Halloween pillow!
Charise has been sewing since the age of six! She learned from her mother and made clothes for her Barbie dolls with her new skills. Her passion turned into a career in fashion design and now running her shop “Charise Creates” where she spends time designing quilting patterns.
Belinda is self-taught. Her first project was a baby quilt, which she made at age six. She particularly remembers choosing the fabrics herself at her local craft store. We’re so glad that Belinda continued her sewing journey and stitches with us often!
Meet Ellie!
Ellie’s mother taught her to embroider in grade school and at age fourteen she took a home economics class during which she learned to sew. Her first project was a shirt which had a collar, front packet, button holes, and set in sleeves. With that much commitment in a first project, it’s no surprise that Ellie never looked back!
Mariana is also a self taught sewist which is exactly shy she’s so passionate about posting tutorials on her website. It’s exactly the kind of content that helped her learn to sew when she began.
Ali learned the sewing basics from her mother when she was seven years old. What started off as a bumpy journey quickly took off for Ali. When she was eleven she made a fitted blouse with puffed sleeves out of taffeta which remains a very memorable project for her.
Jeana grew up with the influence of her mother and grandmother in quilting and sewing. Though Jeana learned to quilt in high school, the craft did not settle into her heart until her time in graduate school. This love eventually led Jeana to leave her career to begin a new one in pattern design and longarm quilting.
Meet Alexis!
Alexis learned to sew in a mostly self-taught fashion. She began with doll making and taught herself how to quilt two years ago. She loves bag making and other small projects in particular.
Lauren can thank you grandmother Molly and her mother (Mama) for teaching her a love of stitching, making and creating. Her sewing journey began all about play, and it’s very much the same today. Lauren was drawn back to into sewing and designing when she had children of her own. Her love for this creative outlet gave birth to Molly and Mama!
We cannot overstate our appreciation for each of these Poppie Cotton Ambassadors, or the love and care that they put into each of their projects. Take some time to enjoy their personal work, blog posts, and tutorials. You’ll be glad you did.
