We are so fortunate to have a community of sewists that love Poppie Cotton. A cornerstone of our community is a group of fabulous Poppie Cotton Ambassadors. These creatives are always working on something new and they devote so much of their time and energy to stitching something beautiful with our fabrics.
We’ve been taking this month on our social media to show off and talk about this talented bunch and we had to share with you here on the blog, too!
Amanda began sewing in 2017 as a stay at home mom in need of a hobby. She took some lessons from her mother-on-law and catapulted into the world of quilting. Now she adores smaller projects, bag making, and designing patterns. Her sewing passion is in helping other’s master bag making!
Kristyne had the support of her aunt and mother who taught her to sew as a child. Kristyne learned tailoring techniques from her aunt, and credits her mother for her attention to detail. Her first project was a felt bear, blanket stitched together with a mouth and eyes embroidered by her mother.
Karen is self taught and has been sewing for over twenty years. She says “if you generally love something, you will do well in it!”
Lisa learned from her mother who started a 4-H sewing club for Lisa and her friends. Lisa’s first project was a pair of red cotton shorts with an elastic waistband. She hasn’t looked back since!
Melissa learned quilting basics from her mother and fell in love instantly. She has been designing quilts from the beginning and eventually started her blog Happy Quilting, authored a book, and became a quilting instructor!
Maggie learned to sew by watching her grandmother. She received her first sewing machine at nineteen years old and made a drop-waist dress. She began quilting ten years ago after brain surgery confined her to her home. Since then her skills have bloomed and she has gained experience in quilting and bag making.
Dori has been sewing for her whole life. Encouraged by her mother, her interest truly developed in high school during a home economics class. Today, hand quilting and small hand stitched projects are still Dori’s favorite!
Charisma taught herself to sew, inspired by the mother of a friend who was a quilter. Charisma’s first projects were hand embroidered wall hangings. This developed into the detailed and beautiful quilts that we see from Charisma today.
Debbie learned to sew in her 7th-grade home economics class. She did not enjoy the experience at the time, but decades later, as her daughter was having a similar experience, Debbie relearned the craft and fell in love with quilting.
We cannot overstate our appreciation for each of these Poppie Cotton Ambassadors, or the love and care that they put into each of their projects. Take some time to enjoy their personal work, blog posts, and tutorials. You’ll be glad you did.
