Poppie's Fabric Flag

Poppie's Fabric Flag

These fabric flags are so fun and addicting to make. Make several to put in a jar and use as your center piece for a summer picnic table.

To make these simple fabric flags you will need the following materials:

Cut (2) 7″ x 5″ red for back and front of flag

Cut (1) 7″ x 5″ batting

Cut (1) 3 1/4″ x 2″ blue for corner of flag

Cut (2) 2 3/4″ x 1/2″ for top stripes (white or pink)

Cut (2) 6″ x 1/2″ for bottom stripes (white or pink)

Cut (1) 1 1/2″ wool star (red or pink)

1 wood skewer

Layer the batting and red fabric. Red fabric is sewn with right sides together.

Sew 1/4″ around outside edge. Leave a 1 1/2″ opening. Clip corners.

Turn right side out through opening. Press. Place your blue square in the upper left corner. Place all your stripes evenly. Remember this is a handmade project and the charm is in the imperfection.

Sew around all 4 outside edges, approximately 1/8″, making sure to catch all layers where you had an opening for turning right side out. Sew around your blue corner square. Sew around the star. Sew through the middle of each stripe. Pull all loose threads from the fabric to clean it up. The frayed look makes the flag adorable.

With a double thread and needle, sew the wood skewer to the back with a few stitches across to top and bottom. Note to self: Be sure to only take your needle and thread through the middle of the layers. You don’t want your stitches to show on the right side.

You won’t be able to stop sewing! These are so addictive and so fun to make.

Make several to place in a canning jar with rice. They are the perfect addition to any centerpiece or table decor.

Happy Sewing!
