Sunny Kisses Quilt Along begins March 21 through May 16… runs every Monday for 9 weeks. Each week we will feature a block. You will complete the blocks for each row. If you join us and follow along you will finish the Sunny Kisses quilt pattern by the end of 9 weeks. You will need a fat quarter bundle of Hopscotch and Freckles, 7 Fat quarters of Country Confetti colors and yardage for the background in Country Confetti Marshmallow White. This darling collection features blacks, reds, pinks, yellows, teals, mints and blues. The little girls are doing chores on the farm and there are designs with pinwheels, strawberries, flowers and sweet words like, Grandma’s House, strawberries, lemonade… Quilt Alongs are a wonderful way to learn new skills and push yourself to stay on schedule and finish the quilt. It’s also just fun to join in with a group and be encouraged with helpful tips and tricks.

The X Flag Block is a similar construction to the last two blocks. Be sure to line up the two triangle pieces to the middle rectangle. The seams need to align so it looks like an X. Sew the side pieces then the top and bottom. Make sure the bottom strip is the largest. This will be the strip where you do the stitch and flip squares for each corner to create the bunting look!

The X Flag Block completes the 3 block designs needed for the top and bottom row of the quilt.

There is a colored strip above each Flag Block that would be the ribbon holding the bunting in place. All these will be discussed in the 9th week of the assembly of the quilt… along with the strips and sashing between blocks. You get lots of opportunity to perfect skills and techniques in this darling quilt. The Flag Blocks are small so beware when cutting… measure twice and cut once. Check your 1/4″ on your sewing machine. Whenever you are sewing something small you must be vigilant about your cutting and 1/4″ seam allowance… this will produce the perfect block!

Happy Sewing!!
