Welcome to our first week of the Sunny Kisses Quilt Along. We are so excited you are joining in on this beautiful quilt using the Hopscotch and Freckles and Country Confetti fabric. Join us each Monday for a new tutorial and video with helpful tips and tricks.
You will need a fat quarter bundle of Hopscotch and Freckles, 7 Fat quarters of Country Confetti colors and yardage for the background in Country Confetti Marshmallow White. There are several quilt shops who carry Poppie Cotton fabric. Please check our list of stores here.
You can view all the fabric selections for Hopscotch and Freckles here. Country Confetti can be viewed here.
The first quilt block we are doing is the House Block. You will need to cut the roof template first from your fat quarter. This is the largest piece in the pattern and if it is not cut first you will cut all your smaller pieces and not have a large enough piece to work with. Once you have cut all your pieces… make sure to label each of your pieces. This will help you stay organized.
We use the stitch and flip method. You can read how to do this in the pattern. Draw a line corner to corner on the wrong side of the fabric. This is your sewing line. Once you have sewn, trim leaving 1/4″ seam. Make the heart using this stitch and flip method.
Sew your bottom piece then your two side pieces. Note: I am using directional fabric. Make sure when you are cutting that you look at your measurement so you can cut in the right direction. This is optional. If you don’t care about the direction then there is no need to worry. I did want the girls to be standing the right way up.
You will sew the chimney next. Once you have sewn the chimney and the two side pieces then you will sew to the side of the roof. Sew the other side of the roof. Press.
Trim your block to 10 1/2″ x 10 1/2″. Be sure to press everything nicely. You will make 6 House Blocks.
We hope you enjoyed our video and step outs for the House Block. Join us each Monday to sew more happy blocks for the Sunny Kisses Quilt Along.
Happy Sewing!
