Sunny Kisses Quilt Along begins March 21 through May 16… runs every Monday for 9 weeks. Each week we will feature a block. You will complete the blocks for each row. If you join us and follow along you will finish the Sunny Kisses quilt pattern by the end of 9 weeks. You will need a fat quarter bundle of Hopscotch and Freckles, 7 Fat quarters of Country Confetti colors and yardage for the background in Country Confetti Marshmallow White. This darling collection features blacks, reds, pinks, yellows, teals, mints and blues. The little girls are doing chores on the farm and there are designs with pinwheels, strawberries, flowers and sweet words like, Grandma’s House, strawberries, lemonade… Quilt Alongs are a wonderful way to learn new skills and push yourself to stay on schedule and finish the quilt. It’s also just fun to join in with a group and be encouraged with helpful tips and tricks.

This week is all about the Chicken Row. The first thing we make is the chicken crown. Follow along using the pattern and make the half square triangle.

Cut the half square triangle in half. Sew each half to opposite sides of the triangle.

This will become the crown for the top of the chickens head.

Next you will make the wing section of the chicken by using the stitch and flip method. You will make 3 this direction and 3 for the chickens facing the other direction. Double check your sewing direction before trimming.

The next few steps are the stitch and flip method and all of these sections are part of the chicken body. Be sure to double check the angle of your stitch and flip before trimming. You will make 3 this direction and 3 for the chickens facing the other direction.

This is the beak section. You will make 3 this direction and 3 for the chickens facing the other direction. Double check your sewing direction before trimming.

To complete the chicken you will want to layout all your sections. Sew together and press.

This is the most darling chicken. Make 3 facing the right and 3 facing the left.

Such a fun Chicken Block to create. We love the crowns on all the chickens. The more contrast you can create between the body of the chicken, the wing and the crown… this will pop each part of the chicken and make them stand out.  Enjoy this video on how to make each Chicken for the Chicken Row. Join us next week for finishing the rows and sewing the rows together to finish the quilt.

Happy Sewing!!
